The Basic Reference Model for Open Systems Interconnect (OSI Model) is a conceptional model that characterizes and standardizes how network communication works.

It separates the communication into 7 layers, starting from the lowest layer (Level 1) at the physical level up to Level 7, the the application layer. We will introduce some of the essential networking basics by going through these layers from top to bottom.
